Group sessions with practical advice that’s proven to reduce the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes
Healthier You is an NHS-funded service, delivered in partnership with Leicester Diabetes Centre and Oviva. It has been developed by expert nutritionists, diabetes researchers and doctors, with people like you in mind.
This programme is designed to help you make simple changes to your diet, your physical activity levels and your weight management, with the aim of significantly reducing or removing your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. In the past 12 months, thousands of people with similar risk factors have joined the Healthier You programme.
Once you have been referred by a health professional, generally your GP, we will contact you to confirm your details and then invite you to join either group sessions or our remote digital programme.
Healthier You group sessions are delivered by trained programme experts to small groups, aimed at giving support and guidance to getting healthy, staying healthy and living healthy.
Our sessions are currently delivered remotely via a phone, computer, laptop, or tablet device from the comfort of your own home.
Healthier You sessions are informal and interactive to enable everyone to share ideas and tips, and benefit from the experiences of other people who are looking to reduce their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
Remote digital programme
The Digital Healthier You programme is delivered by Oviva and it:
- Matches you with your own personal health coach who will provide specialist and personalised dietary support just for you over 9 months.
- Is delivered entirely remotely with no need to travel, so you can get your support wherever you are.
- Can fit appointments around your schedule, even during the evenings or at weekends.
- Gives you life-time access to psychological and nutritional advice on our app, to help you gain confidence and keep up positive lifestyle changes long term.
50% of people on the digital programme have a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes and 100% would recommend the programme to family or friends. People who take part lose on average 10lbs, if weight loss is their personal goal.
British Sign Language Sessions
We will be launching British Sign Language (BSL) sessions for participants whose first or preferred language is BSL. A pilot will be running with a programme via Zoom with a qualified BSL Interpreter present. We will be working with Zebra Access (zebra-access.com) who have supported us in making refinements to the Healthier You programme to ensure its accessible to the participants.
The Healthier You programme is focused on providing information and advice to enable you to decide which changes work best for you.
